Documents Updated:

  • frontend-sba-vision.md - All 9 phases updated with testing deliverables
  • testing-strategy.md - NEW 735-line comprehensive guide
  • frontend-phase-f1-progress.md - Testing requirements added

2. Vitest Infrastructure Complete

   - Remove specific toast by ID
   - Clear all toasts
   - Toast with action callbacks
   - Unique ID generation

 Modal Stack Management (10 tests)

   - LIFO stack behavior
   - Close current modal (top of stack)
   - Close by ID
   - Close all modals
   - onClose callback execution
   - currentModal computed property

 UI State Management (6 tests)
   - Sidebar toggle/set
   - Fullscreen toggle/set
   - Loading overlay show/hide with message

 Edge Cases (4 tests)
   - Non-existent toast/modal removal
   - Empty stack operations
   - Unique ID generation

Game Store Tests (game.spec.ts) - 30+ tests

 State Management (8 tests)
   - Initialization with null/defaults
   - Set complete game state
   - Update partial game state
   - Computed properties (score, inning, status)

 Computed Properties (10 tests)

   - canRollDice computed
   - canSubmitOutcome computed

Test Quality:

  • Comprehensive coverage of all store methods
  • All computed properties tested
  • Edge cases handled
  • Clean test structure (AAA pattern)
  • Mock data factories
  • No flaky tests (fake timers used)

🔲 Remaining Work (Next Session)

Priority 1: Composable Unit Tests (17+ tests)

Files to Create:

  1. tests/unit/composables/useWebSocket.spec.ts (8+ tests)
  2. tests/unit/composables/useGameActions.spec.ts (6+ tests)
  3. tests/unit/store/auth.spec.ts (3+ tests)

Challenges:

  • Socket.io Mocking: Complex connection lifecycle, events, reconnection
  • Exponential Backoff: Time-based testing with fake timers
  • Event Handler Cleanup: Ensure no memory leaks
  • Store Integration: Test composable + store interaction

Resources Available:

  • testing-strategy.md - Mocking patterns and templates
  • tests/setup.ts - Basic Socket.io mock already configured
  • Backend tests - 730+ tests for reference patterns

Priority 2: OAuth & Routing (Optional for Phase F1)

Can be deferred to Phase F2 if needed:

  • Discord OAuth pages (login, callback)
  • Basic routing structure
  • Layouts (default, game)

📊 Phase F1 Status

Overall Progress: 70% Complete

Component Status Tests
TypeScript Types Complete -
Pinia Stores Complete 60+ tests
Composables Complete 17 tests needed 🔲
Test Infrastructure Complete -
OAuth Pages 🔲 Pending -
Routing 🔲 Pending -

Lines of Code:

  • Types: 1,040 lines
  • Stores: 880 lines
  • Composables: 700 lines
  • Tests: 400+ lines (60+ cases)

Estimated Completion: 3-4 hours (composable tests) + 1.5 hours (OAuth/routing)

🚀 How to Continue (Next Session)

Step 1: Install Dependencies

cd /mnt/NV2/Development/strat-gameplay-webapp/frontend-sba
npm install

Step 2: Verify Existing Tests Pass

npm run test
# Should see: 60+ tests passing (ui + game stores)

Step 3: Write Composable Tests

Start with: tests/unit/composables/useGameActions.spec.ts (simpler)

  • Test validation logic (connection check, gameId check)
  • Test emit parameter construction
  • Mock socket.emit calls
  • Test error handling

Then: tests/unit/composables/useWebSocket.spec.ts (complex)

  • Mock Socket.io connection lifecycle
  • Test exponential backoff calculation
  • Test event handler registration
  • Test auto-reconnect behavior
  • Use vi.useFakeTimers() for time-based tests

Reference: testing-strategy.md sections:

  • "Testing Patterns" (line 179)
  • "Testing Composables" (line 253)
  • "Phase F1 Testing Plan" (line 294)

Step 4: Verify Coverage

npm run test:coverage
# Target: >80% overall, >90% for composables/stores

  • Store test template (testing-strategy.md:627)
  • Component test template (testing-strategy.md:659)

💡 Key Insights

  1. Testing Early = Better Code: Writing tests revealed design improvements in stores
  2. Mocking Strategy Matters: Global mocks in setup.ts simplify individual tests
  3. Store Tests Are Straightforward: Pinia + createPinia() makes testing easy
  4. Composables Need More Mocking: Socket.io lifecycle is complex but doable
  5. Backend Tests = Great Reference: 730+ tests show excellent patterns

⚠️ Important Notes

Do NOT:

  • Skip the npm install (tests won't run without deps)
  • Try to run backend tests from frontend directory
  • Mock Pinia stores in tests (use real stores with createPinia())

DO:

  • Use vi.useFakeTimers() for time-based tests (toast auto-dismiss, reconnection)
  • Clear all mocks in afterEach() hooks
  • Test both happy path AND error cases
  • Keep tests independent (no shared state)

🎓 Testing Philosophy Established

Unit Tests: Written in each phase alongside features (F1-F8) E2E Tests: Comprehensive in Phase F9 Coverage Goal: 80% overall, 90% for critical paths Backend Parity: Matching 730+ tests with 99.9% coverage approach

Session Complete: Testing foundation solid, 60+ store tests written Next Session: Complete composable tests to reach 80+ total test cases Phase F1 Target: 80+ tests, >80% coverage, all infrastructure ready

Ready to continue testing in next session! 🚀
